Let me know if anyone can get to these videos, if not I'll have to figure out something else. It takes to long to upload it directly from this post.

Too much bad news!!!

Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday were some horribly awful days! Prepare for a long post...

Wednesday when I got out of work, Scott and I were getting ready to go grocery shopping when he broke the first string of bad news. The days that he took off the week before when he went to Missouri, that were suppose to be paid vacation days- were not paid at all. Apparently Meijer changed how you are suppose to request your days off. They are still suppose to do them online, but there is something you have to click in order to get it as a paid day off. This, I guess, is new- and Scott didn't know. So, his paycheck was REAL small. He said there is nothing they can do about it now. He'll just have to take the days off some other time, he just had 5 days off of work unpaid :(

So after some extreme frustrations on my part because of the fact that our fridge was empty and we were both suppose to spend money on groceries, now- it was just me. Not that big of a deal because I just got paid that day. Whatever, I get over it, we go shopping. I spent about $50- just to come home, check my bank account online and find a charge for $79.95 out of Toronto from a company called Kaspersky Arvato. I didn't recognize it at all. I racked my brain, but knew, if I spent that much money, I'd know where the hell it came from. So, I called my bank and told them. They said they'd have to cancel my debit card, and issue a new one- because my "debit card number had been compromised". I get off the phone with them, and immediately try to track down what that company was. Kaspersky is an anti-virus software company. I found their website, but couldn't call because it was about 10 pm, when I noticed all this.

I started to panic. If they have my debit card number, do they have anything else- my SSN? So I went on to annualcreditreport.com That is the website where once a year you can print your creidt reports from the 3 major companies. I printed mine for 2 of the 3 major credit companies, the 3rd you had to sign up for. My credit report is clear, same stuff that was on there before. There really was nothing else I could do, so I went to bed.

The next day, I called the Kaspersky company. I told them, I have an unauthorized charge from their company on my card. They asked "does it say Arvato after it?" I said yes, and they gave me a number to call. They acted like they'd heard this all before. So I call the number they gave me. First I spoke with someone from Russia, but I had to get off the phone to go to work. Then I spoke with someone from Buenos Aires, we got disconnected. Finally I was talking to someone in Germany. These are supposedly different foreign bases for the same company. I told the customer service rep what happened. She asked for the last 4 numbers of my card, pulled the file and found the charge. She said she would cancel the shipment, and refund the charge. I told her I wanted to know all the information she had about the person who ordered. She said the email address they used was lauraalban@aol.com. Then said she also had an address and phone number. I asked her what they were, when she began to tell me, I thought I was going to throw up. It was MY address and MY cell number!!!!! I asked her how the hell that could happen, and she explained to me that when someone orders from there, they simply email them the download from the software, they don't actually need their address.

So, yeah- sick to my stomach. I go back on the credit reporting website and put a fraud alert on my credit report, I guess it's good for 90 days and they have to alert me when someone tries to do something with my credit- apply for a credit card, try to buy a cell phone, car, etc.

Friday when I was on the phone with 5/3 they informed me that my new card wouldn't be going in the mail until today at the earliest and if I want to dispute the charge I need to go to a banking center and fill out paper work. I yelled at this lady. Told her I had called 5/3 customer service atleast 6 times before then and NO ONE had said anything about having to fill out paper work, not to mention the fact that the first person I talked to said it would take 1-3 days to get my card in the mail.

This really is a horrible sickening feeling. I don't feel safe. I can't figure out how someone would've have gotten that information. I still have my card, it wasn't stolen. I can't remember the last time I bought something online with it. The only companies I can think of that have my debit card number, address and my cell number and those are 5/3, Netflix, State Farm, and maybe Citibank (for my student loans). It's scary to think about how easy it could be for an employee of one of these places to just take my information. To take anyones information.

I don't know what else to do. Dad said to file a police report, but I called the local police station and they said I'd have to talk to someone at the Attorney General's office, because it's foreign. I sent them an email, will probably try to call tomorrow, but I really don't think it will do any good. When I asked a lady at 5/3 if they had any security issues lately, she said, well no. We find in most cases that it was someone purchasing something online. I told her I hadn't lately, then she said she heard a local gas station had an employee that was recording people's card numbers when they swiped. I told her even if that were true, he wouldn't get my cell number from there. Then she said, well it's probably someone you know. I wanted to punch her in the face. I am seriously thinking about switching banks. But I don't even know what to switch to, this could happen anywhere. I did read online though, that you shouldn't have a checking and savings at the same bank. That way if someone got your information at one- they couldn't completely wipe you out. So if I don't switch both accounts to another bank, I'll probably atleast switch one.

So, then on top of all that garbage, Scott and I got in a HUGE fight Friday night. We are suppose to be saving money to get married, but he's not. He was for awhile, then started spending like crazy on his credit card, including a bunch more DVDs. So, we have a new savings plan. We are really going to be cutting back on spending.

  • Unfortunately our first cut will be our summer vacation. We are still going up north, staying in the hotel on the beach in St. Ignace, but we will not be going to Mackinac Island. It just costs to much money to get over there, so we are going to save it for another time, and try to find some other stuff to do. We couldn't just cut the trip out all together. Scott probably could have, he went to Texas earlier in the year, then just got back from Missouri. I NEED a vacation, even if it is just a weekend. I NEED weekend for us to get away. Forget about all the issues we have to deal with here and just go somewhere and chill together. It will be good for us. Last year when we went to Chicago, we had such an amazing time! We still talk about it. That weekend really was perfect.
  • Next on the savings plan, we dropped Netflix. That will save me $10/month, and we can just keep getting movies for free from the library.
  • Another savings plan, Scott gave me his Biolife card (where they put the money on when he donates plasma) he gets about $50/week. He gave me the card, and I'm going to give it back to him once a month and all of the money from the card is going to go towards his credit card bill. It for real needs to be paid off, it's getting way out of control.
  • Another plan we have is our money jar. We have a jar and all of our spare change goes in there, and if we have random $1. My only worry about that is that Scott will dip in to it when he wants to go to McDs or something. But that goes with our other plan...
  • I'm really going to get going on the coupons. I looked a bit at what you showed me Steph, but I hadn't really put it to use. Oh- except for my dairy free ice cream sandwiches (Toffuti cuties). A box of 8 at Meijer is normally $3.03. They were onsale, 2 for $4, or $2 a piece. I got a coupon for $1.50 off one. I got a box of 8 ice cream sandwiches for .50!!!!! Anyway, we are really going to plan for our meals. I told Scott that he should find some breaded chicken and make his own McChicken sandwiches. That we should buy a big box of burgers for $4, instead of $1 for one sandwich. That will be the toughest, because he really loves his fast food. He loves my cooking too, don't get me wrong. But it's usually breakfast or lunch that he goes out. So, we are going to try making more dinner, so there are leftovers, for lunches.
  • Another way we are going to try and save is unplugging stuff we aren't using. I read an article that said stuff that is plugged in, even if it's not turned on, uses energy and that those things account for 40% of your electric bill. That would be huge-- if we could remember to do that.
  • One last idea we have is we went through al lo
So, thats the plan. I'm sure we'll add more to it as we go. But, it's a start. Our goal is to- obviously save as much money as we can for our wedding, and pay off Scott's credit card completely before we go on our honeymoon. We want to go to Hawaii and know the card will probably be a chunk of the funds for it, unfortunately. If we could save enough for the wedding and honeymoon, that would be terrific- but we aren't counting on it. I only make a little over $10/hour and Scott makes $7 something/hour. But we are working on Scott. I found full time job offers in the paper last weekend for him to apply for. But, much to my disappointment Scott procrastinated and didn't get his apps submitted until Thursday... Might have been to late. But we are keeping our fingers crossed. If I don't get a raise by fall, and get put on salary, I'll probably start looking for other employment. I don't have a choice. We need more money.

Fortunately for us, we managed to end our crappy end of week on a good note. Our friends Mike and Heather got married on Saturday. We drove up to Hart Saturday afternoon (about 1 1/2 hours), the wedding was at 3, then we had about 2 hours to waste before the reception. So we went to find Lake Michigan, and found it- but the spot we found was super busy and there was no parking, so we just stayed by a little lake called Stony Lake. We sat in the car reading and eating trail mix. Then we went to the reception. We had fun. It was a bummer between the 2 of us we only had $1 on us, so we were a little cheap on the dollar dance- lol. We got to dance together though, haven't done that in awhile. It was a blast! We found out that these friends are going to be living back in a trailer in Allendale, where Mike lived when we first met him. So they will be close by. We decided since we are both incredibly poor couples, we'd have to meet up and hang out- definitely a lot more than we had been hanging out. We left at about 10 pm, then both fell asleep on the couch. Here are some pics from the wedding.

Outside at the reception

Sunday we woke up ate breakfast, then Scott REALLY wanted to go to the zoo. He's so cute, he loves going to the zoo. And heck- the membership is already paid for, so it's something free to do. We spent a lot of time there. The lions were down really close- which was awesome! Their new exhibit is fabulous! Then they were feeding the chimps. I think between the lions and chimps- we spent about 40 minutes, just on those 2. lol

The 2 females. There is a male too, but we've never seen him down at the bottom, he's always at the top in the back on the rocks.

The smears you see on the glass to the left of Scott- are on the other side of the glass. They are lick marks and paw prints.

I have a video of the lions that I want to post too, I just have to figure out how. Stay tuned in a future post.

Our first look at a baby wallaby!!

We were baking at the zoo, so we immediately got home and went in the pool. We were at the pool for awhile, like 3 hours, I think. We were dumb- we didn't put on sunscreen, and we are both now burnt... But, we cooled off, and relaxed, thats what the goal was. Thats what we needed.

Well, thats long enough for today.

As a final note, everyone please keep Scott's family in your prayers, he just found out that his grandmother passed away.

another slow week

Scott left for Missouri Monday afternoon, was back in Michigan Thursday night, and was back up here Saturday night. While he was gone, I didn't do much... I think I have 5 or 6 scrapbook pages done. But didn't really do anything other than that.

Thursday I had a checkup appointment for my toe. The doc said it's looking ok. Said I only have to soak it once a day, for 20 minutes, instead of twice a day. I have one more appt August 7, that is when he said it should be fully healed.

Friday I went shopping, looking for something to wear to the 2 weddings we are going to. One is this Saturday and the other is in September. I've come to the conclusion that every dress in the world will look like crap on me. I went to so many freaking stores!!!! I finally found a shirt (I got it for $21) at Kohls, now I just need to find a skirt or something to wear with it. I might just end up wearing my khaki pants just so I don't have to suffer through shopping more. Man, if I were skinny, I'd love shopping. I know I would. I always find so many clothes that I think look cute, but they rarely come in my size, and even if it does, it looks like crap.

Saturday I spent most of the day cleaning. Doing dishes, vacuuming, dusting, just straightening stuff off in the living room so it was all neat and clean when Scott got back. He was pretty tired when he got back, so we just hung out and watched a movie. Then Sunday, I got really irritated about our bedroom. It looked so cluttered and dirty. It was driving me crazy. So, we went through everything, threw away some stuff, a lot was stuff we tossed in the recycle bin, and we have a bag of stuff we are going to attempt to sell. Later on this week we are going to go through the closet, go through our clothes and stuff. The room looks a lot better. I hate clutter, we don't have much room in our apartment, so to clutter it with crap we don't need/use is not good.

Other than the wedding on Saturday this week looks pretty quiet. Today and tomorrow after work we'll probably go play tennis. The weather is suppose to be great, low 80s, low humidity. Starting Wednesday it's suppose to start getting hot, so we'll probably go swimming. There is a pool at our apartment complex, but we rarely go in it. Usually too many kids there.... We'd go to the beach, except I can't get sand in my toe wound, and I can't get it in river or lake water--- too dirty. Doc said cholorine is ok though.

Thats all for now.

Some real bad storms and a FABULOUS holiday weekend!

Well lets see, first off we have the HORRIBLE storms that came through Wednesday. There were 3 of them. The first one started at about 3:30 pm. That storm was lightning, thunder, rain and a whole bunch of rain. That lasted about 30 minutes. There was lots of hail. We were waiting for a tornado at work... The second storm was at about 4:50 and lasted about 20 minutes. According to the news that one was worse than the first, but I didn't see it. My office doesn't have windows and I didn't come out of there much during the second storm. Not sure which one, but one of the two storms knocked over a tree in front of my apartment. But there were tons of trees down all over the place. There is one road near us that someone I work with was trying to go down, they said there were so many trees down it looked like a tornado hit. There were tons of roads closed. Thousands of people in the county we live in lost power (thank goodness we did not). Parts of the highways were shut down, power lines were down all over the place.

Here is a pic of the tree that was down. Yeah, it's blurry, my camera is dying.

And that was just the first 2 storms..... The third one started at about 9 pm. We thought the storms were over, so we went to go get my hair cut. Well, I got that done, then we were going to go to WalMart, but there power was out, most of that part of town had no power. So, we headed back. Part way it started down pouring super hard. We stopped in some factory parking lot on the way because it was raining so hard. After sitting there for about 10 minutes we realized it wasn't stopping any time soon. So I started driving again. On this one road near us, Kinney, the water was up to my doors, I was driving down the road and there were like waves flying up on both sides of the car.

I needed to go to Meijer, to get stuff for my toe (I just had another toe surgery Monday afternoon, they actually put some acid stuff on my toe after chopping off the nail to keep it from growing back.) Anyhoo, I didn't have bandaids, gauze or anything so we went to Meijer. On the way a girl I work with, who lives in the same apartment complex, called and said the water in her parking lot was over her knees!!!! Yeah, that scared me. She lives further back, but I didn't know how bad it was where we were. So I got out at Meijer and Scott drove back to the apartment, he said in the driveway to get to our parking lot, the water was up over the bottom of my car door!!! But our parking lot was up high enough, it wasn't flooded. He came back to Meijer and we got some groceries. By the time we got back, most of the water was gone. But boy oh boy that was scary! When Scott went back to our apartment I called Dad to tell him, I was freaked out!!! But everything was ok. Luckily we live on the second floor because pretty much everyone in the complex on the bottom floor ended up with a flooded apartment.

Ok, on to something a little more chipper! Thursday I got out of work at 2pm!!! Yay and the holiday weekend begins!! Thursday night Dad, Bry and Holly came up and we went to a Whitecaps baseball game. We got there pretty late, but they were doing a double header because the game the day before was cancelled. So, we saw almost the whole second game, it actually went like 3 innings longer than it was suppose to because it was tied. But, they won!!! It's the first time Scott and I saw them win! Afterwards they showed fireworks.

Friday we just hung out during the day. Holly, Dad and I went to a mall for a bit, then later on after eating some burgers and brats we headed downtown. Scott and I love watching the fireworks in downtown Grand Rapids. It's beautiful! The fireworks are always amazing! We were sitting on the blue passenger bridge, which is 2 bridges down from where they shoot them off at. We got there WAY early, but the weather was nice, so it was ok. Here are some pictures!!

Bry hamming it up.

There we go, he doesn't smile, but hey better than nothing. Oh and my hair looks super short, but it's not actually that short. It's just above my shoulders.... I don't even know if I have a picture of it....

I love this picture. The building on the right is the JW Marriott, you can only see part of it, its huge. And the center of both sides is all lit up in blue at night. It's way expensive though! It's between $200 and $500 per night! Check out the website, there is one picture of the room where you can see out the big windows, you can see the bridge we were sitting on- it's gorgeous!!!

That bridge is where Scott and I sat last year. On the other side of that bridge is another bridge and thats where the shoot the fireworks off at.

This is the blue passenger bridge that we were sitting on.

This is the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. In the part over the water is a big carousel.

Dad and Holly working on one of my People crossword puzzle books.

I thought the fireworks were really good. My camera kept taking a crap on me, so I don't have too many pictures. Boy, I can't wait til I get a new camera!! I'm hoping to get a new one before we take off for Mackinac.

Saturday Dad, Holly and I went to the zoo, then we came back ate grilled chicken pasta salad for lunch, then headed to the beach! We went to the PJ Hoffmaster State Park. Unfortunately I couldn't move from my seat cause I can't get sand in my bum toe. So I hobbled to the spot where we were sitting and hung out. I was bummed, I wanted to go in the water- I was roasting!

Scott sleeping in the sun

Bry stayed at the chairs and hung with me though.

They left on Sunday morning. And that was the weekend.

Oh, I made rocket pops!! I used cherry jello, whipped cream and blue jello, they were great!!

Ok, here are some recipes that I made this weekend.

Rocket Pops
1 pkg cherry jello
1 c. sugar, divided
2 c. boiling water, divided
ice cubes
2 c. cold water, divded
1 pkg blue berry jello
1 tub (8 oz.) cool whip, thawed

Combine cherry jello with 1/2 c. sugar.
Add 1 c. boiling water; stir til dissolved.
Add enough ice cubes to the 1 c. of cold water to make 2 cups. Add to jello, stir until melted.
Pour evenly into 16 (5 oz) plastic cups. Freeze 1 hour.

Repeat first 3 steps with the blue jello. Put bowl in fridge for 1 hour.

Spoon 3 Tbsp cool whip on top of red jello. Top with blue jello. Freeze 1 hour.
Insert wooden popsicle stick into each. Freeze 4 hours or overnight.
To remove from cup, place bottom in running water.

BLT Bruschetta
5 bacon strips, cooked & crumbled
1/2 c. finely chopped seeded tomato
1/2 c. finely chopped leaf lettuce
1/2 c. prepared pesto, divided
2 Tbsp minced fresh basil
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 loaf french bread
3 Tbsp olive oil

Combine bacon, tomato, lettuce, 2 Tbsp pesto, basil, salt and pepper; set aside.
But baguette, place on ungreased baking sheet. Brush w/ olive oil. Bake at 400 for 9-11 minutes. Spread w/ remaining pesto; top each w/ 2 tsp bacon mixture.

I have a couple more, but I'll post those tomorrow.

I have to bring my plants inside. Scott left earlier. He's going to Jonesville tonight, then heading out with his family tomorrow to go to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Scott's brother is having his Army graduation this week. Then I guess he's home for 30 days, then off to Korea. He'll be in Korea for 60-90 days then he'll probably be shipped off to Iraq. Any way, I have to bring my plants in because the news just said there is another storm heading this way. Might be pretty bad storms, will hit here about 1 am.

Hi!

Haven't posted in a long while, but I'll post sooner or later. Probably later, Scott leaves for Missouri Monday night, so I'll have plenty of time then.

Hope everyone had a great Holiday weekend!!!
