Ok, so there was a bulletin posted on myspace saying you have to go to Google type in your name followed by the word needs and post what the first link is that pops up. So I type in "Samantha needs" and what pops up, but a blog someone titled Samantha needs about a girl who typed in "Samantha needs" on Google and all the stuff that popped up for her.
By the way, in case you are wondering link 2 says Samantha needs prayers and financial support.
Links 3 was a different blog about Googling "Samantha needs".
Link 4 says Samantha needs cheering up.
And my favorite... the 5th link is about someones monkey named Samantha needing a boyfriend!!
Thats all.

We're Engaged!! Valentines Day Part 1
Yes, the cheeseball proposed on Valentines Day!! And I'm so freaking thrilled that he did!!! I've been trying to take a picture of my ring, but the lighting isn't right, and I haven't been able to try during the day, so I'll try to tomorrow morning.
So, here's the story.... I got home from work at a little after 5:30. I was expecting us to exchange Valentines gifts, eat the food I had in the slow cooker, and go to a Grand Valley basketball game. Well, we went to open our Valentines gifts, and I got Scott, Gone with the wind, and a couple things of candy. Scott got me 2 stuffed animals that are similar to the very first stuffed animals he gave me, a monkey with sunglasses and a stuffed dog. Then he got me Casablanca (we talked about the movies before), then he got me some candy. I was cool with what I got, but I admit, I did say... "what, no flowers?"
Then he pulled out a box from Zales. I open it and it's a necklace, with a sapphire in it. I looked at him and said, "Scott, from Zales, what the heck are you doing, you know we don't spend a lot of money on each other for Valentines day!?!?!" Cause, well we don't. Valentines Day is cheesy. I've just never really got in to spending lots of money on jewelery just for a Hallmark holiday. Scott just looked at me and said "oh don't worry about it" Then he got down on one knee and started fumbling around in his pocket. I was like... what the heck are you doing?? He said well, I got you the necklace because I thought it would go well with this. He pulled out a little black box, and was joking about not being able to open it the right way. Then he opened it and said "I was just wondering if you would marry me?"
I was speechless, I was surprised. My eyes started tearing up. We were just talking about this a month ago or so and said, man it would be so freaking cheesy if you proposed on Valentines Day... and he was!! I tried to talk, but just kept stuttering nonsense. He said "well aren't you going to say yes?" Then finally I said "well of course I say yes!!" We hugged and kissed, then I said, "Omigosh I'm so sorry I gave you crap for not getting me flowers!!!" Then we laughed.
Scott did tell me that his original plan, which he was thinking about just after Christmas was for us to take a Valentines weekend trip to Chicago and he was going to propose there. But, because of money and stuff, it just never came together. Then said he thought our apartment was the next best spot because he didn't want to wait til summer and do it on the beach, and plus our apartment is where we spend all of our time. It's our first home together and where we've lived for almost 3 years. So that worked out nicely.
Later on I sent a text to my dad (he was at work, I couldn't call him, he got the text when he went on his break), then I called mom, then Ally, then Steph. I tried to call dad's house to tell my Bry and Holly, but they didn't answer. Scott called his mom and dad. Then we went on with our plans. We ate the beef with gravy on rice that I made, then went to the Grand Valley basketball game. When that was over, we came home, watched a movie and went to bed.
Then this morning, he made me a bagel sandwich for breakfast that had egg, turkey bacon and cheese on it. Then we went and had Chinese later on for lunch. Then I went back to work, and he left.

Big weekend for the Prater Family.....
Well, Scott found out Friday afternoon that he has a new niece! His brother Mark and his wife just had their 3rd baby girl. So now Scott's nieces are Naomi, Elena, and (if I get the spelling right...) Meyah. (Pronounced like Mia). So that is some big news.
Big news #2..... His brother Brad just joined the Army, and he leaves for his Basic Training, in Missouri I think, on Monday 2/18!!! So... next Friday Scott and his dad are flying to Houston, so they can pack up all of Brad's stuff into his truck and drive his truck back to Michigan, hoping to be back in Michigan on Sunday!!!!! I have a whole lot to say about this, but I'll refrain. Instead I'll just say that I am incredibly nervous for him and his dad to drive the 16-20 hour trip back to Michigan during the winter. I mean the weather sucks in most of the country. Yeah, in Texas they'll be fine, but they have to drive through a whole lot more states than that.....
I'll say that I think it sucks a$$ that I have to sit at my apartment again by myself while he takes off to another state for anywhere between 3-5 days. They might leave Thursday or Friday and hope to be back Sunday, but will probably be back Monday. Yes, I understand why he's going. His dad asked him to go with him. Also, his brother is going into the Army, who knows where the hell they'll send him after his Basic Training is over, but still. I will freak out about it.

Depression with a little confustion mixed in.....
Well, wedding planning has officially been put on the back burner. Scott and I were really planning on using our tax refund money to put in to savings and use for wedding, but that is not happening. So, we will now have considerably less to use than I wanted to have. So '09 is probably out.
Everyone I talk to at work keeps saying, well you don't need money to get married- just go to the court house. Uh, NO. To put the record straight, that will not be happening. We will have the perfect wedding that we both want, and that does cost money. Money that we don't have.
So... until I get some motivation to look again, no more wedding stuff. These $$ issues just really depressed the hell out of me, and I'm not really into wedding stuff right now. So, that would be the depression....
On to the confusion. At work Friday my boss told me that he's thinking about giving me a new responsibility. That would be communicating with the acts that we have touring to make sure they know their schedules, what shows they have coming up, any changes, etc. He briefly told me this, and told me that it would involve a slight raise..... thats where the confusion lies. A few months ago during a conversation with him I was led to believe that my position was temporary. He called it a stepping stone for me, and made sure I knew, there really wasn't any opportunity for advancement. And he understands, and completely expects me to keep my eyes open for other job opportunities. So, I've been job hunting. And now this.... HELP!!!! It's irritating because I like my job. I want to work there. But I can't stay there at an hourly position of $9/hour. Even a "slight raise" isn't going to help me out much. But, I don't want to look for another job. There is an Employment Expo downtown today. I was tossing around the idea of going. But, to be honest I never really wanted to. But, yesterday during a conversation Scott was telling me how much he thinks I should go. But I like my job, why would I look for another, just because of money..???? I'm confused.

Well, thats some bad news.....
Ok, I just typed a really long entry and my computer froze up and I lost it all. ARGH!!!!! I am NOT going to retype it all, so the short version. I found out this morning while trying to get my taxes done that I owe over $300 for federal. I was going to owe over $200 for state, but Scott is letting me claim all of our rent so I'll get a little over $100 back from that. I spent much of the afternoon bawling my eyes out because I don't have $300! Scott and I planned on using our tax refund money and our rebates that we are getting in the summer to save up for wedding stuff. Now, I will hardly get any back, and Scott said he'll use his refund to help me pay what I owe. I'm so damn frustrated. First I made about $2000 less than I did last year. Now this. I don't even know how it happened. That thing on the W4 that you have to fill out when you first start a job, I always put 0 or 1, I would've never put 2!! But I guess there really isn't any other explanation. Oh, I also owe $75 for city taxes. I don't know how the hell that happened. 2 years ago, the first time I had to file city taxes I got a $7 refund. Last year I had to pay like $5, and this year it's all the way up to $75!!! What the hell is going on!!?!?!!?
I really need to get another job, like yesterday. Maybe Scott is right, maybe we do need to look out of state. I think I'm to the point where if things don't drastically change by fall, we'll be seriously looking out of state for jobs. I mean, how much hope should I have when I wake up in the morning and have to hear on the news about how the economy in the country is crap, the job market, especially in Michigan is garbage. We were thinking Chicago, but who knows, it's all up in the air. Scott actually found a full time teaching job in the paper that he's going to apply for. Hey at least the job search is going well for one of us.
It really sucks that I had to find out about this today. We'd been having such a great weekend. Since we decided not to travel this weekend, Scott still had the weekend off and decided that he wasn't going to go in to work. So Friday night we just hung out. Saturday morning we woke up, put our Orbi Trek together and went out shopping. I was looking for new winter boots. I broke the zipper on my other ones. However, stores suck and they think Feb 1 means it's close to spring break, so no more boots for sale, but there is quite the selection of flip flops! Argh. Seriously, it's February, we still have at the very least 2 months of winter left!!! Anyway, we came home and watched movies. Then this morning I did my taxes, and spent about 2 hours freaking out and crying, so we decided to get out of here.
We went to Grand Haven. We've wanted to go there during the winter for a long time. The roads were finally cleaned off, so we went. It was amazing!!! It's funny because when we first got there I was talking to dad on the phone and he asked me if there was ice on the water. I said we couldn't tell for sure from where we were but I assume so. Well, we got out of the car and started walking. The beach was all snowy, not deep snow, maybe an inch or so. It was very eerie at first. Everything was soooo still. We kept walking, after we started going out on the beach a bunch of other people arrived and came out there too. Then we heard one of the guys talking, he was saying we were standing on the lake. There were these huge hills of ice, they were actually waves that were frozen!!! It was so cool. We only went to the first wave, some of the other people that were there went to the second wave. But we only had tennis shoes on and it was very slippery. We couldn't see that far because the hills or "waves" were too high. We couldn't believe it. We were so glad we went out there though. We walked around for a while then got in the car and moved it closer to the pier. Then we walked down to the pier. We didn't walk on it though. One side was all iced up, but the other wasn't, but it would've just been too scary to go out there, so we didn't. Well, with that, here are some pictures:

yes, he is sticking his tongue to the ice... That was very thick ice there.

That is all the pictures. When Scott and I got home from the beach we made chocolate chip cookies together. Then we made pizza for dinner and watched the game. He's still watching it, I don't really care about it too much. Well, tomorrow is another day. Oh, I almost forgot, this week I will probably be preparing for the Mega Employment Expo that is Saturday at the Delta Plex. Apparently there will be people there hiring from 40-50 different businesses. They have been known to interview and hire on the spot so you have to come prepared. I am thinking about going because there will be people there from the Grand Rapids Press and from Clear Channel radio. Both possible job opportunities!!! So... there is still hope.
